Caitilín & Callum’s wedding was the perfect mix of vibrant fun & classic elegance!

there’s something truly magical about a wedding at Newburgh Priory.

As a Yorkshire wedding photographer…
… I’ve had the privilege of capturing many beautiful weddings, but there’s something truly magical about a wedding at Newburgh Priory. Nestled in the rolling hills of North Yorkshire, Newburgh Priory offers the perfect mix of grandeur and charm—making it one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the region. Last summer, I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding that exuded relaxed elegance, with a sophisticated yet laid-back vibe that perfectly matched the couple’s personalities.
The Setting: A hot Summer’s Day at Newburgh Priory
Newburgh Priory, with its sweeping grounds, majestic architecture, and hidden corners, set the scene for a wedding reception that was both romantic and fun. The warmth of the day made the priory gardens a welcome setting after the couple’s joyful ceremony at the family’s local church in Yarm.
Newburgh Priory weddings are always a delight to photograph, and this one was no exception. The couple chose to enjoy their drinks reception in the Long Gallery Ruins, with their family and friends. The relaxed atmosphere and gentle natural light was perfect for capturing candid moments on both digital and 35mm film, giving the images a timeless, soft aesthetic.
A Stylish Bride in a Jesus Peiro Gown
Caitilín was absolutely radiant in a breathtaking Jesus Peiro gown. Known for its understated elegance and luxurious craftsmanship, the dress complemented the venue’s classic beauty perfectly. The silhouette was clean and modern. Paired with a fun and delicate veil and sleek sophisticated hair (Luan- hairstylist) and makeup (Cat Johnson- MUA), she looked every bit the stylish bride.
As a York wedding photographer, capturing Caitilín & Callum’s big day was a true joy. The natural, effortless beauty of Caitilín in her dress was stunning, and the sweet moments shared between the couple during the quiet parts of the day were such a pleasure to capture.
A Marquee Reception with fun and great food
Following the drinks reception, guests made their way to be seated for their meal (Embers) in a beautifully styled marquee (Will’s Marquees) on the grounds of Newburgh Priory. The tent was decorated with beautiful flowers (Annie Jowett), candles, and colourful touches that gave the space a fun, yet elevated feel.
One of my favourite parts of wedding photography is capturing the candid, in-between moments, and this reception was full of those. Whether it was the joyful laughter shared during speeches, guests mingling after an epic rainstorm, or the incredible dance floor which was full to the brim once Miss Disco came to the stage, every moment had its own special energy.
As a Yorkshire wedding photographer, I always aim to document a couple’s big day in a way that reflects their personality and style. This wedding was the perfect blend of style, comfort, and fun. The couple’s relaxed approach and their incredible on the day co-ordinator- Hannah, allowed for plenty of natural, heartfelt moments that came through in the final images.
The Beauty of 35mm Film
While digital photography is always my main focus, I always love incorporating 35mm film into my work. There’s something about the texture, the grain, and the colours that film gives that can’t be replicated. For weddings like this one, where the atmosphere is so relaxed, film photography really brings out the emotion and authenticity of the day.
